Toning, a dude named Cody Brant, is tearing it up with weirdness on his recent tape on newish label Skell. All sorts of sounds on Paranormal Romance, made only with guitars & synths (and the occasional drum machine) but spanning enough genres that it’s damn tough to pin down. It’s got some drugged up Eric Copeland drips, buzzing Zomes drone jams, dusty & twangy Americana melodies, spaced out lazer burns, and everything in between, a dozen or so bite sized tracks for coping without your ADD meds, each looped in its own way, some blasted & crazy, others subtle & delicate, but mostly just hypnotic & engaging. Totally awesome stuff. Only 50 copies, of which I believe there are still some left. Definitely jump on this.

Epileptinomicon – Changeling House Summer (Sleeping Giant Glossolalia, 2010)

Epileptinomicon are a band I know pretty much nothing about. I don’t know how many people are involved, I don’t know if they’ve put out anything other than the two CD-Rs on Sleeping Giant Glossolalia, I don’t even know if they still exist (although judging by the fact that this was only released last year, I think it’s safe to assume they’re still hanging around).

All I know is that Changeling House Summer is a warped beast of treacherous blackened murky drones. This record is full of crazy fucked jams sounding like they were recorded in a dark hidden corner of the Murder Castle, looped & based, crackling amps spewing brownout sludge from busted electronics, cracked guitars, and worn drum machines, burnt out feedback riding alongside pulsing synths, howling wind blowing through jail-barred windows and kicking up blood caked dust in your FACE.

An absolutely killer twisted mess of a record, one which I’m not certain is totally out of print, but the label’s not selling it in their store and it’s not an easy one to find so here ya go. Have at it, thank me when your hair’s standing on end and your eyes are permanently bloodshot.

The Swamp – Universe & Beyond! (Native Parts, 2010)

The SwampUniverse And Beyond

The Swamp is a side project of the dude from Skogar, Johannes Brander, with his pal Marcus Herz. Together they make some moody synth/guitar ambient psych jams that, surprise surprise, sounds like Skogar fell in a dank swamp. And since it’s a well known fact that swamps + Skogar = total awesomeness, their new tape Universe & Beyond! on Native Parts was a winner before you even hit play.

It’s a strange, foreign landscape that these sounds are coming from. This tape conjures haunted Plutonian swamp gas and spins it into an atmospheric noise, usually catching itself in semi-kraut grooves or pop numbers from the crypt. It’s some seriously weird experimental improv shit that instantly transports you to the murky dregs on the other side of the galaxy.

Universe & Beyond! is soaked in the lo-fi warble hiss of cassette, smearing a hazy glow over already warped flavors. Get into it and see for yourself why it’s got an insert with Mickey, Donald, & Goofy getting fucked up.
